Week of 9-8-14 Objectives
This week we will continue to work on making connections when we read. Last week we learned that readers make connections that better help them understand the text they are reading. These connections give us background knowledge into what is happening in the text we are reading. We can make text-to-self connections. This means that something in the text reminds us of an experience that has happened to us. Text-to-text connections reminds us of something we have read in another text. Text-to-world connections remind us of an experience that has happened in the real world. Finally, text-to-media connections remind of us an event on television, the internet, or in a song.
We will start looking at traditional literature this week as well. We will learn how to summarize the story in logical order using transition words. We will also paraphrase the theme in fables, legends, and myths.
In writing, we will continue to work on drafting stories by organizing them into paragraphs. We will look at the differences in types of nouns. Singular vs. plural. Common vs. Proper. We will practice capitalizing titles before peoples' names, and family members names in our writing. We will learn how to use commas in a series. For example, I have two dogs, one cat, and a pet goldfish.
Our word study will focus on synonyms and antonyms. Then we will move on to prefixes.
